Development and Reform Commission adjusts refined oil prices by 500 yuan per ton from the 24th
Sina Financial News: According to the National Development and Reform Commission, refined oil prices have been increased again starting from May 24. Gasoline, diesel, and aviation kerosene prices have each gone up by 500 yuan per ton. This marks the largest price hike in recent years, signaling a significant shift in domestic energy pricing.
The commission's officials explained that global oil prices have surged sharply in recent days, with the closing price of WTI crude oil futures exceeding $70 per barrel for several consecutive days. To address the growing gap between international crude oil prices and domestic refining costs, as well as to stabilize the relationship between crude oil and refined product pricing, the decision was made to adjust the prices of refined fuels once more.
In addition to the price adjustment, the National Development and Reform Commission has urged local governments to properly implement the changes and ensure that all necessary subsidies are in place. It emphasized the need to protect the income of taxi drivers, who are particularly affected by fuel price fluctuations. Meanwhile, major state-owned companies such as PetroChina and Sinopec have been instructed to boost production and improve logistics coordination to ensure a stable supply of refined oil products across the country.
This move comes amid rising global energy demand and continued geopolitical tensions affecting oil markets. Analysts suggest that further price adjustments may be expected if international oil prices remain volatile.
