Multi-pole electromagnetic chuck type super-finishing machine tool passed the appraisal
On November 22nd, the China Machinery Industry Federation held a scientific and technological achievements appraisal meeting for multi-pole electromagnetic chuck type super-finishing machine tools at the Beijing Science and Technology Hall. The meeting concluded that the application of this advanced technology in bearing processing represents a leading-edge development within China. This innovation is expected to significantly enhance the level of equipment manufacturing in the old industrial bases of Northeast China, and further support China's transition from a major bearing producer to a global bearing power. In turn, it will contribute to raising the overall standards of mechanical processing across the country.
It is worth noting that China’s bearing super-precision equipment technology is still in an early developmental stage. Currently, most super-precision processes rely on pressure roller-type finishing equipment, either imported or domestically produced. However, these systems have inherent limitations that are difficult to overcome. Additionally, some older methods, such as roller bar equipment and manual polishing, are still in use. As a result, the surface roughness, waviness, and vibration values of processed bearings remain low, leading to poor product precision and weak market competitiveness.
As a national patent product (Patent No.: ZL97222421-1), the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck type super-finishing machine tool introduces a core innovation: the use of a multi-pole electromagnetic chuck. This technology replaces traditional chucks like quick-action chucks, spring chucks, and monopolar electromagnetic chucks, marking a significant advancement in super-precision fixture technology. Its implementation has exemplary value for promoting the broader adoption of electromagnetic chucks throughout the machinery industry.
The machine tool features automatic and semi-automatic operation, PLC control, and the use of a multi-pole electromagnetic chuck for end-face suction without a pressure roller. It also includes an automatic magnetic reversal system, stepless adjustment of workpiece rotation speed, oil stone pressure, and oscillation frequency. Additionally, it has a safety mechanism that alerts and stops the machine when the oil stone reaches its limit. The oscillating parts have low inertia and high frequency, while the manipulator uses a forced loading and unloading device, ensuring safety and reliability.
Key technical features of the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck super-finishing machine include:
- Elimination of axial pressure on the spindle by using a disk to suck the workpiece instead of a pressure roller, solving issues with spindle and pressure roller bearings.
- Reduced time required for tooling replacement and adjustment.
- Use of the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck to secure the workpiece, combined with oscillating and pressurizing oil stones to reduce surface roughness, improve geometric accuracy, and extend bearing life.
- Stable and reliable loading and unloading through a forced structure, enabling efficient coarse and fine finishing simultaneously.
- Shortened adjustment time for the fulcrum.
As part of the Torch Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission’s industrialization demonstration project, this machine tool has completed prototype development and small-scale production. It has undergone performance testing and real-world production evaluation, with all technical specifications meeting the project requirements.
