Multi-pole electromagnetic chuck type super-finishing machine tool passed the appraisal

On November 22nd, the China Machinery Industry Federation held a scientific and technological achievements appraisal meeting for multi-pole electromagnetic chuck-type super-finishing machine tools at the Beijing Science and Technology Hall. The evaluation highlighted that the application of this advanced technology in bearing processing has reached a leading level within China. This innovation is expected to significantly enhance the equipment manufacturing industry in the old industrial base of Northeast China, and support the country’s transition from a major bearing producer to a global bearing power. In turn, it will contribute to elevating the overall standards of mechanical processing in China. It is reported that China's current bearing super-precision equipment technology is still in an immature stage. Most super-precision processes rely on pressure roller-type finishing machines, both imported and domestically produced. These systems have inherent limitations that are difficult to overcome. Additionally, traditional roller bar equipment and manual polishing methods are still widely used, resulting in low surface roughness, waviness, and vibration values in processed bearings. This leads to poor product precision and weak market competitiveness. As a national patent product (Patent No. ZL97222421-1), the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck-type super-finishing machine tool represents a significant technological advancement. It utilizes a multi-pole electromagnetic chuck as its core component, replacing conventional chucks such as quick-change, spring, mechanical, and single-pole electromagnetic chucks. This innovation marks a breakthrough in super-precision fixture technology and sets a meaningful example for broader adoption across the machinery industry. The machine features automatic and semi-automatic operation, PLC control, and the use of a multi-pole electromagnetic chuck for end-face suction without the need for a pressure roller. It also includes automatic magnetic reversal, stepless adjustment of workpiece rotation speed, oil stone pressure, and oscillation frequency. When the oil stone reaches its limit, an alarm system triggers shutdown for safety. Its design ensures low inertia in the oscillating parts, high-frequency performance, and a reliable manipulator with forced loading and unloading mechanisms. Key technical features of the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck super-finishing machine include: - Eliminating axial pressure on the spindle by using a disk to hold the workpiece instead of a pressure roller, thereby solving issues with spindle and roller bearings. - Reducing the time required for tooling replacement and adjustment. - Using the multi-pole electromagnetic chuck to secure the workpiece and applying oil stones for oscillation and pressure to reduce surface roughness, improve geometric accuracy, and extend bearing life. - Implementing a stable and reliable forced loading and unloading structure, enabling efficient coarse and fine finishing simultaneously. - Shortening the adjustment time for the fulcrum. As part of the Torch Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission’s industrialization demonstration project, this machine tool has completed prototype development and small-scale production. It has undergone performance testing and real-world production evaluation, with all technical indicators meeting the project requirements. This marks a major milestone in the advancement of high-precision bearing manufacturing technology in China.
