2-Alarm fire in Norridge, 1-7-15 (more)

On the early morning of Tuesday, January 7th, in the town of Norridge, a massive fire broke out in a large home—nearly mansion-sized. The temperature was well below zero, and the extreme cold made the situation even more challenging. It appears the structure used modern lightweight construction methods, including truss systems, which likely contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. The location was on a small intersection with limited access, making it difficult for firefighters to maneuver. Heavy fire conditions were reported, and there were challenges in getting water due to frozen hydrants. Several people were reported missing or trapped when the fire department arrived, but all occupants were eventually accounted for during the early stages of the response. Despite efforts from multiple handlines and the use of the Leyden aerial pipe, the fire quickly gained control, consuming the entire building. A tanker from Prospect Heights was later called in to support the Schiller Park tower, but I had already left by that point. Below are some of the photos I captured that day.
