2-Alarm fire in Norridge, 1-7-15 (more)
On the early morning of Tuesday, January 7th, a severe fire broke out in Norridge under sub-zero temperatures. The blaze occurred in a large home, likely built with modern lightweight construction techniques, including truss systems. Due to the extreme cold, the area faced significant challenges, such as frozen hydrants, which made it difficult for firefighters to access water. The fire was located on a small intersection with limited access, and heavy fire conditions were reported from the start.
According to Steve Redick, several people were reported missing or trapped when the fire department arrived. Search efforts were conducted, but all occupants were accounted for early in the operation. Despite the efforts, the fire spread rapidly and consumed the entire structure, which was later demolished.
Firefighters deployed several handlines and used the Leyden aerial pipe. A tanker from Prospect Heights was eventually called in to supply water to the Schiller Park tower. Steve had already left before this happened. He shared a collection of photos taken during the incident.
