Ted's production of ultra-high purity aluminum to fill the domestic gap

Nantong Tide Electronic Materials Technology Co., Ltd. has made a significant breakthrough in the production of ultra-high-purity aluminum, attracting attention from both domestic and international markets. Recently, the Beijing Institute of Nonferrous Metals and Rare Earth sent a fax to the company, expressing its intention to gradually replace imported products with Nantong Tide’s ultra-high-purity aluminum. This marks a major step forward for the company as it gains recognition from key industry players. Since January this year, the company, located in Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone, has been conducting trial production of ultra-high-purity aluminum with a purity level of 5N5 (99.9995% or higher). The Beijing Nonferrous Metals and Rare Earth Research Institute has tested the product four times and expressed satisfaction with its quality. So far, twenty domestic and international research institutions have reached out to Nantong Tide, showing interest in potential collaborations. Ultra-high-purity aluminum, defined as having an aluminum content of 99.9995% or more, offers superior conductivity, ductility, reflectivity, and corrosion resistance compared to primary aluminum. It is widely used in the electronics and aerospace industries. Previously, only a few Chinese manufacturers could produce high-purity aluminum at 99.999% (5N), and no domestic company had the capability to produce materials with a purity of 99.9993% (5N3) or higher. Globally, only Germany, the U.S., France, Russia, and Japan had the capacity to produce such materials. In 2002, the State Science and Technology Commission included “aluminum metal purification” in its 973 research program. Nantong Tide invested 1 million yuan to collaborate with Shanghai Materials College on developing advanced purification technology. The project gained support from both the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the State Science and Technology Commission, receiving 2 million yuan in funding. After over four years of research, the team improved the segregation efficiency of impurities during the vertical directional solidification process, significantly enhancing the purity of the aluminum. The Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences tested the product and confirmed that it meets international standards. The success of this product has drawn widespread attention. German multinational company Heraeus, known for its expertise in precious metals, dental materials, and industrial sensors, conducted tests on Nantong Tide’s ultra-pure aluminum and praised its quality, stating that it matches that of international leaders. In April, the company’s quality supervisor visited Nantong Tide twice, expressing interest in long-term cooperation. Beijing Yiyan Yijin, which previously imported ultra-pure aluminum from a French firm, has also tested Nantong Tide’s products and is now considering replacing imports with domestic alternatives. With the current global annual output of 5N5-grade ultra-high-purity aluminum at around 2,000 tons, Nantong Tide plans to expand its production capacity significantly. The company will launch ten new production units in October and aims to increase its production scale to 80 units within two years, achieving an annual output of 960 tons. Once operational, Nantong Tide is expected to become Asia’s first ultra-high-purity aluminum producer and rise to the top tier of the global market. China will transition from being a blank in ultra-high-purity aluminum production to becoming a leading producer.
