AkzoNobel's acquisition of Dulux will complete the ICI market today

On January 3, 2008, AkzoNobel officially confirmed the completion of its acquisition of ICI, a leading British paint and coatings company. The deal was valued at £8 billion, marking one of the largest transactions in the global paints industry at the time. Following the acquisition, ICI's operations were integrated into AkzoNobel, with its headquarters and key functions moving to London, where it continued to operate under the broader umbrella of the multinational corporation. In a statement released by AkzoNobel, the company explained that ICI shareholders would receive £6.70 for each share they held. In addition to this, shareholders were also entitled to a second interim dividend of £0.05 per share, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding its investors during the transition period. This move not only strengthened AkzoNobel's market position but also expanded its presence in key regions, particularly in Europe, where ICI had a strong foothold. The acquisition was seen as a strategic move to enhance AkzoNobel’s product portfolio and customer base, while also driving long-term growth and innovation in the coatings sector. It marked a significant milestone in the company’s history, reinforcing its status as a global leader in the industry.
