New sanitation machinery and equipment debut in Beijing
In a bid to enhance urban cleanliness and environmental safety, Beijing has introduced a range of advanced sanitation machinery and equipment for the first time, particularly ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These cutting-edge tools are set to play a crucial role in maintaining the city's cleanliness and ensuring a hygienic environment for both residents and visitors.
One of the highlights is the new suction sweeper developed jointly by Beijing Sanitation Group and a German manufacturer. This machine incorporates top-tier European cleaning technology, featuring flexible pneumatic control, automatic left-right locking, and a front push cleaning function. It’s ideal for large roads and highways, powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM904LA engine that meets Euro III emission standards, making it highly energy-efficient.
Another notable vehicle is a multi-functional road cleaning truck imported from Germany, designed specifically for deep cleaning of road gaps where dust and stubborn dirt tend to accumulate. This machine is essential for thorough urban road maintenance.
The SK650 suction sweeper, developed by Beijing Sanitation Group in collaboration with Schmidt, is a high-performance model used primarily for cleaning debris in gutters and sewage channels. It’s suitable for major urban roads, squares, airports, and stadiums, marking a significant advancement in China’s road cleaning technology.
Additionally, the Mazio 40 road sweeper, a medium-sized multi-purpose unit imported from France, is praised for its compact design, aesthetic appeal, and quiet operation. It’s well-suited for large venues such as sports arenas and exhibition centers.
A new type of kitchen waste collection and transport vehicle has also been introduced, featuring excellent sealing capabilities to prevent secondary pollution caused by leakage of organic waste.
These innovative sanitation vehicles will be directly deployed in Beijing’s environmental security efforts during the Olympics and Paralympics. According to reports, between 2003 and 2006, the Beijing municipal and district governments invested a total of 277 million yuan to purchase 688 sweepers and sprinklers. As a result, the average mechanical sweeping rate for urban roads reached 76%, covering an area of 15 million square meters. By the end of 2007, the mechanical sweeping and flushing rates on main roads were expected to reach 95%, with the goal of achieving 100% before the 2008 Olympics.
In line with Beijing’s urban cleaning plan and road quality standards, the city is gradually adopting new technologies and equipment that combine suction, brushing, washing, and recycling. This approach aims to continuously reduce road dust levels and significantly improve overall cleanliness.
