Gentag integrated temperature sensor for passive tag chips

Gentag, an IP development company based in Washington DC, announced that it has designed, patented and successfully tested a temperature sensing circuit that can be directly integrated into chips used in EPCGen2UHF (915MHz) or HF (13.56MHz) passive RFID inlays.

The company claims that the sensor only adds very little tag cost due to the use of a single temperature standard technology rather than a dual temperature standard technology in the manufacturing process. Temperature sensors have been successfully integrated into active and passive tags, while tags made with Gentag technology will be the first fully passive tags that incorporate a temperature sensor. Gentag said it is currently negotiating with many passive label manufacturers to bring the technology to market. Temperature Tracking Passive tags are suitable for a wide range of applications, from tracking perishable foods and pharmaceuticals to monitoring temperature changes in industrial products or munitions.
