Bosch develops new solid-state electric vehicle battery

On September 23, 2015, Bosch , a German electronics company, announced that it plans to release a new solid-state electric vehicle battery by 2020, which will double the mileage of electric vehicles and cut costs by half. At present, the cheapest electric car is priced at 30,000 U.S. dollars (about 190,000 yuan), and the general mileage does not exceed 100 miles (approximately 161 kilometers). Bosch's new battery allows the vehicle's cruising range to reach 200 miles (about 322 kilometers).

With the help of the Californian startup Seeo, Bosch has developed the new battery. Currently Seeo already owns a sample of the battery.

Seeo said that they have developed lithium batteries that do not contain liquid electrolytes. This battery does not require a cooling system and does not pose a fire risk as with traditional lithium batteries. Compared with the Tesla ModelS, which weighs 1200 pounds and costs $12,000 (about RMB 77,000), this battery is much lighter and has lower production costs.

“Explosive new technologies meet the demand of many companies for vast knowledge and business resources,” said Volkmar Denner, chairman of Bosch's board of directors.
