The fire at 8032 South Hermitage that was initially reported as a 2-11 alarm has now turned fatal. A 45-year-old adult female was pulled from the burning home by Chicago Fire Department (CFD) crews shortly after they arrived on scene. However, she had already suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. No working smoke alarms were found in the home. The fire was reported at 9:56 a.m., and CFD units arrived on scene within four minutes. When they reached 8032 South Hermitage, neighbors told them an occupant was still inside. Firefighters quickly entered the structure and discovered the woman with critical injuries who was unresponsive. The fire is now under control, and no firefighters were injured during the operation.
