House fire in Arlington Heights, 1-14-20

Just before 4:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14, a resident in Arlington Heights called the local fire department to report smoke coming from a neighbor's home at 1415 E. Fleming Drive South. Shortly after, the homeowner contacted authorities, indicating that a fire might have started in the microwave and that the family had already evacuated the premises. Police arrived first and observed thick black smoke pouring from the house. Firefighters from Engine 4 quickly confirmed the presence of smoke and soon discovered heavy flames in the C-D corner of the structure. The incident was escalated to a Code 4, prompting additional units from Arlington Heights as well as crews from Buffalo Grove to respond. To combat the fire, three water lines were deployed, including an exterior line that used foam to help suppress the flames. A resident was assessed by Buffalo Grove Ambulance 26 and transported to the hospital for evaluation due to smoke inhalation. Emergency responders worked swiftly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of the neighborhood. The house sustained significant damage, but no injuries were reported. Fire officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have originated in the kitchen area.
