The coordination between Engine 94, 7, and 68 was impressive, especially with the use of the alley to reach the rear of the building. It seems like the fire spread fast, but the teams were able to keep it from spreading further. The photos from Dan give a great visual of the response, showing the engines and trucks in action. A reminder of the hard work that goes into every call, even when it's not immediately visible. Thanks again, Dan, for sharing your perspective and images. Chicago FD house fire 5-7-13
Still & Box Alarm 5814 Roscoe
Still Time: Approximately 1410 hrs
Engine 94 was the first on scene, responding to a fire facing westbound and immediately deployed two lines. Truck 53 was assigned to sector 1. Engine 7, as the second engine, positioned itself at the northwest corner of Newport and Menard, then advanced through the alley to the rear of the structure. Engine 68 approached from the east on Roscoe and also laid a line. The Fire Alarm Officer received multiple calls about the gazebo in the rear being on fire. The flames quickly spread to the rear of the Chicago bungalow, into the attic, and then to the exposure to the west. I arrived well after the fire had been brought under control. Thanks for the update, Dan Shevlin.
