Oil-free was founded in 1980, the former Ministry of Machinery Industry formed the last subordinate industry focal point Institute. In fact, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, there was only one China-based oil-free agency in the world.

In the mid-1990s, the state started the second scientific and technological structural reform with the transformation of research institutes as its main content. Probably trained by the experience of "a weaner at birth", Oilfree started looking for a way out early and has been in contact with FAW since 1993. In January 1995, No Oil Co. formally joined the FAW Group (there is a gap in the field of diesel engines) and became one of the earliest restructurings in the research institutes. Although "Wuxi No.1 Fuel Cell Research Institute" has been labeled "China FAW Group Corporation" since then, it still retains the name of "Wuxi Institute of Oil Pumps and Mouthpieces of the Ministry of Machinery Industry" and its function of serving the industry.
Strategic shift to focus on fuel injection system
In the process, oil-free made an important decision to move toward a comprehensive engine research institute in a research direction from a narrow-based research institute. In the past system, engaged in the research of the pump nozzle agencies do not allow engine research; engaged in vehicle research can only be devoted to vehicle chassis technology, and can not engage in engine research. In general, foreign engine manufacturers usually have a strong fuel system development capabilities and vehicle matching capabilities, OEMs usually have a very strong engine R & D capabilities.
Since 1996, the entire R & D system has been adjusted to be oil-free. First of all, the R & D area will be broadened. From the original research on oil pump nozzles, it will be expanded to other engine technologies such as combustion system, intake and exhaust system, valve train, lubrication system, supercharging technology, simulation calculation and cooling system. Secondly, the depth of research and development is divided into three levels: near, middle and far. Recent research and development, mainly to solve the technical problems encountered in the actual production of enterprises (first to meet FAW Group's corporate R & D tasks); mid-term mainly for major technological research enterprises and new products, new technology research and development; far Mainly follow the international forefront of technology, maintain the world level of synchronization of ultra-high-level technical research.
It is because of this strategic shift that oil-free research activities have come out of the established framework to focus on the cutting-edge technology of injection systems from the standpoint of improving engine performance.
From its founding date, Oil-Free is not a closed-door research organization. In order to improve their own level and unified thinking, at that time no oil organized a British CAV technical experts to come to China for technical exchanges, but also invited the former Soviet Union's oil nozzle Institute visit. These old experts have their own basis, foreign experts and lectures is "a little pass."
After the initial construction work, oil-free research and development work quickly carried out. In the era of mechanical pumps, oil-free has been able to produce their own designs based on the study of foreign products. For example, the BQ pump was designed in 1983 and started production in 1986-87. Later BX pump is the largest production of small pump products on the market.
After the country began to gradually implement the emission standards, many domestic enterprises can not meet the emission requirements of products, resulting in many OEMs and engine manufacturers on the national laws and regulations have a resistance.
