2-Alarm fire in Northbrook, 1-16-19

Northbrook firefighters, along with mutual aid units, responded to a reported house explosion on Melanie Lane at 2563 before 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Upon arrival, crews found one home fully engulfed in flames, with fire spreading into the adjacent buildings on both sides. A Box Alarm was immediately called, followed by a second alarm that brought additional units from most of Division 3 to the scene. The original structure was completely destroyed, while one of the neighboring homes was nearly gutted. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the remaining exposure, with only minimal interior damage reported. Northbrook Tower 12 and Glenview Truck 14 deployed elevated master streams to combat the intense fire. Glenview Engine 8, Northbrook Engine 10, and Northbrook Squad 11 were all actively pumping water to control the situation. Local residents were evacuated as a precaution, and emergency personnel worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading further. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but no injuries have been reported so far.
