2-Alarm house fire in Buffalo Grove, 8-26-20
On August 26, 2020, firefighters and police from Buffalo Grove responded to a residential fire at 25 Dellmont Court. Upon arrival, first responders noticed flames coming from the roof vent of a two-story single-family home. The incident was quickly escalated to a Code 4 working fire, followed by a MABAS Box Alarm to bring in more resources. Fire crews advanced several lines into the structure but faced challenges accessing the attic. As the fire spread, it self-vented through the rear, sending thick smoke and visible flames out of the house.
An exterior attack was initiated to control the blaze before crews could re-enter the building for a full interior assault. Due to the intense heat, the alarm was later upgraded to a second alarm to provide additional personnel. Two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries and transported from the scene.
Several fire companies were involved, including two engines from Buffalo Grove and the Long Grove Tanker 55, which operated from hydrants. Mutual aid units came from nearby areas, including Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Palatine, Countryside, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Highland Park, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect, Deerfield, Northbrook, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Hoffman Estates, and Winnetka.
Photos from the scene show the intensity of the fire, with firefighters seen battling the flames using hose lines, as well as images of the Buffalo Grove FD Quint 27 and Engine 26 responding to the emergency. The community watched closely as crews worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
