House fire in Orland Park, 11-7-22
On Monday evening at 10:41 PM, the Orland Fire District received a 911 call regarding a fire on the 9800 block of Avenida Del Este. Multiple residents reported an unknown fire in the area, and initial reports suggested it may have originated from a shed located next to a tri-level home.
Upon arrival, Battalion 6 found heavy smoke and flames coming from the shed, which was adjacent to the residence. The fire had already spread into the second-floor attic, prompting immediate action. Fire crews launched a coordinated attack using two pre-connected hose lines, one on the front and one on the back of the house.
The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing further spread. The homeowner, who was outside in the driveway, confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated. He mentioned that he was alerted by an unknown person who saw the flames and kept knocking on the door until he opened it.
A full still alarm was activated to bring in additional resources, including backup from other stations. Multiple fire companies from the Orland Fire District, along with support from Palos, Tinley Park, Homer, Lemont, and North Palos Fire Districts, assisted with fire suppression, search and rescue, and overhaul operations.
Orland Park police also played a key role by alerting neighbors in an adjacent home and helping them evacuate to safety. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Orland Fire District is working closely with MABAS 19 investigators and their own Origin and Cause Team to determine the source.
Residents are advised to remain cautious and stay informed as the investigation continues. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
