Here's an excerpt from Gurneeil.us: The Village of Gurnee and Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District Celebrate the Grand Opening of Fire Station 3 GURNEE, IL – The Village of Gurnee and the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) officially celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 3 on Wednesday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m. The event took place at 5330 Manchester Drive in Gurnee, IL 60031, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community festivities. This new station is designed to support the existing two fire stations that serve both the Village of Gurnee and the WWFPD. Spanning 14,452 square feet, Fire Station 3 will be staffed by five firefighter/paramedics and will house two ambulances and one ladder truck. The facility was planned over several years as part of the village’s long-term strategy to improve emergency response times and service efficiency. Its strategic location near major highways like Interstate 94 and Route 120 makes it easier for crews to reach incidents quickly, especially during high-volume call periods. The original construction bid for the project was around $6.3 million in 2019. It was included in the 2020–2021 capital budget but was postponed in April 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, the contractor advised the village to re-bid the project due to rising costs and supply chain issues. New bids came in at $5.8 million, and despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, the project remained on track and was completed without significant delays.
