Fire truck photos

Steve Redick recently visited Wirfs Industries in McHenry and snapped photos of two unique fire apparatus currently in for service. The first unit belongs to the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District, which received a 100-foot mid-mount tower ladder in 2009. This truck was built on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic cab, and it's one of the few such units still in service today. ![South Elgin & Countryside FPD](#) *2009 Spartan Gladiator Classic/Crimson 100′ mid-mount tower ladder for the South Elgin & Countryside FPD. Steve Redick photo* The unit also features a Crimson law tag, which is a rare sight these days. It's always interesting to see how older fire trucks are maintained and used, especially when they're still performing their duties effectively. ![Crimson Fire law tag](#) *Crimson law tag* ![Spartan chassis law tag](#) *Spartan chassis law tag* On the other hand, Clarendon Hills FD Squad 316 takes a different approach. This 1994 Pierce Dash ER HDR has a very short wheelbase and a compact ER-style cab, making it ideal for quick response in tight urban areas. Despite its age, the truck still looks well-maintained and ready for action. ![Clarendon Hills FD Squad 316](#) *Clarendon Hills FD Squad 316, a 1994 Pierce Dash ER HDR. These vintage rigs are not only functional but also serve as a reminder of the evolution of firefighting equipment over the years. ![Pierce Manufacturing law tag](#) *Clarendon Hills law tag*
