Trash compactor fire in Buffalo Grove, 3-7-17

On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, firefighters from Buffalo Grove were dispatched to 2500 Millbrook Drive after a fire broke out in a trash compactor near a loading dock. The blaze was initially contained to the dumpster outside the building, but smoke spread throughout the warehouse, prompting an immediate response. To gain better access to the source of the fire, the fire department called for a wrecker to move the dumpster away from the structure. Once the dumpster was cleared, crews worked to soak down the remaining materials, though an attempt to dump the contents proved unsuccessful, as they wanted to ensure no hidden embers remained. The location is situated near the border with Lincolnshire, and the first responders on the scene included Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Truck 51. Firefighters used high-powered blowers to help ventilate the area and control the smoke, while also using water to suppress the flames. A heavy wrecker from Ernie’s Wrecker Service was brought in to lift and remove the dumpster, allowing for a more thorough inspection and cleanup. Multiple photos captured the scene, showing the fire department at work, the wrecking equipment in action, and the damaged dumpster. These images are available for viewing at Shapirophotography.net. The incident highlighted the quick response and coordination between local fire departments and emergency services to manage the situation effectively.
