According to Dr. Qian Weili, the use of bioplastics and common plastics is common in Japan. For example, among Toyota's plastic parts, 30% use biodegradable plastics and 70% traditional plastics. In Japan, plastic waste is disposed of incineration, and the use of bio-plastics in part will undoubtedly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and be more environmentally friendly. If waste plastics are disposed by landfill, the non-degradable parts of the partially degraded plastic products still exist, and their impact on the environment will change due to the difference in the blending ratio between bioplastics and ordinary plastics.
The application bottleneck is breaking According to Dr. Qian Wei, although the biodegradable plastic heat is formed on a global scale a few years ago, due to the relatively high price of biodegradable plastics, certain performance indicators are still far behind traditional plastics. Its market acceptance is not yet high.
He said that the high price is the most important reason for the promotion of bio-plastics, especially when the international oil price is relatively low, the price advantage of traditional plastics is very obvious. At present, international oil prices have hovered over a hundred dollars for a long time, and the price advantage of traditional plastics is gradually shrinking. The search for synthetic alternatives for petroleum routes, especially recyclable non-polluting materials, has become more urgent. This is biological. Plastics provide a favorable market support condition.
Secondly, the high temperature resistance of bioplastics is not good, and many bioplastics will be deformed at 50°C to 55°C. Therefore, their application fields and application ranges are greatly limited. In addition, bioplastics are generally brittle and have poor impact resistance, and are difficult to use in areas where automotive parts and components require high impact resistance. Dr. Qian said that further improvement of biodegradable plastic product performance and its promotion to electronic products, even automotive materials, can truly enable bioplastics to be widely used.

He said that some developed countries have adopted the approach that the government has stipulated that malls and supermarkets must adopt plastic film products modified by biological materials such as PLA and have degradable properties. According to Xinhua News Agency, on March 2, 2007, the San Francisco City Council passed a bill prohibiting retailers and pharmacies from using traditional plastic bags. The bill stipulates that retailers such as supermarkets and pharmacies can only provide paper bags, sacks, or biodegradable plastic bags made from corn by-products. Chemical plastic bags are strictly prohibited. This bill has greatly promoted the application and promotion speed of bio-plastic bags.
